ROOM NUMBERING SCHEMES
An effective numbering scheme is crucial to aide wayfinding. All projects “come” with some sort of numbering scheme. Existing projects may have numbers, some of which developed overtime and may or may not have evolved in a rational fashion. New projects have architectural numbers to track finishes, equipment, furniture, doors and other schedules. Existing and/or architectural numbers schemes not always (or most often) do not make sense from a wayfinding point of view.
What we do:
Analyze the floor plans to determine the access/egress points . |
Determine the vertical circulation cores. |
Establish logical routing paths. |
Develop a numbering scheme that increses from the entyr points following the routing paths and from the vertical cores to the periphery of the building. |
Implement the numbering system early in the design process to coordinate all construction organizational aspects. |
